Santos Rugby Rally Falls Short

March 24, 2024 - DW

A late rally by the Santa Fe Rugby Football Club fell short by 7 points (one converted try) Saturday in a match with the Highlanders RFC of Denver at Santa Fe’s Municipal Recreation Complex. The Santos scored first in the 38-31 loss but the visitors’ strength combined with key Santa Fe errors fueled a Highlander lead that reached 33-14 early in the second 40-minute half. The Santos rallied with a try by Mateo Cardiel and two from Aidan Gurule in the final stretch, but an intercepted pass and score for the Highlanders provided them the final margin. Santa Fe will host Flagstaff, Arizona on March 30 and Phoenix RFC April 6 before playing host to the Southwest Rugby Union championships April 20-21.
